Duration

How long a desensitisation protocol takes depends on the patient. In the same way that both the composition and dosage of the allergen solution is tailored to the individual, the duration of both the initial and the maintenance phase are determined by the individual's sensitivity and response.

On average, for perennial allergies:

Route of administration

Duration of the initial phase

Duration of the maintenance phase

Subcutaneous injection

12 to 14 weeks

3 to 5 years

Sublingual administration

11 days

On average, for seasonal allergies:

Route of administration

Duration of the initial phase

Duration of the maintenance phase

Subcutaneous injection

12 to 14 weeks

3 to 5 successive seasons

Sublingual administration

11 days for pre-seasonal treatment
1 day with rapid escalation of doses with medical monitoring for seasonal treatment
