Scientific name:Ambrosia artemisiifolia

Description:

Ragweed, a native of North America, was only recently introduced into Europe (travelling in airfreight shipments from America), probably since the Second World War.
It can grow to a height of 1.5 meters and produces spiny fruit which stick to clothing.


Where they are found:

Ragweed is mainly present in North America, although it has begun to spread throughout Europe for a few years (e.g. France, Hungary…).


Period of exposure:

from august to september


Major allergens:

Amb a 1 - Amb a 2 – Amb a 3.


Allergy:

Ragweed pollen presents a high allergenic potency which can trigger rhinitis (hay fever).
